Abstract

Almost 20 years have passed since adhesive materials became utilized for dentistry. In the earlier period, the purpose of adhesive dentistry was to establish better durability of dental restorations by adhesive luting cements. Currently the materials contribute to increasing the tooth survival rate by decreasing tooth grinding by dentists and preventing the secondary caries for the effect, resulting in improved quality of life.<BR>On the other hand, during this time period, the concept of medical practice has shifted from being doctor-oriented to being patient-oriented, requiring true clinical efficacy and economical cost performance. To fulfill these two requirements in dentistry, we, clinical researchers, should assist the evidence-based clinical approach by producing more rigorous clinical research evidence that indicates adhesive dentistry can promote patients' quality of life.
