Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of various staining materials and heating rates on the surface texture and mechanical properties of castable ceramics (OCC<SUP>®</SUP>) during crown fabrication.<BR>The results were as follows:<BR>1. Surface roughness and bending strength of the stained specimens were not influenced by the different kinds of staining materials and heating rates.<BR>2. Surface gloss of the stained specimens tended to increase at a low heating rate.<BR>3. Surface roughness of the stained specimens decreased, but bending strength was smaller than that of the sandblasted specimens.<BR>It was found that the existence of a stain layer exerts a major influence on mechanical properties.<BR>4. There was no relation between thickness of the stain layer and the bending strength.
