Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress distribution of porcelain crowns in function, using three dimensional finite element method (3 D FEM) analysis.<BR>Conventionally, it was regarded the complex crown-cement-abutment as a continuum unit in 3 D FEM analysis. However, these analyses were not applicable to fracture aspects in the actual situation. Therefore, in this study, analysis was carried out under the condition that the complex crown-cement-abutment was regarded as a non-continuum unit in 3 D FEM analysis.<BR>The results were as follows:<BR>1. As for the complex crown-cement-abutment as a non-continuum unit, 3 D FEM analysis of porcelain crowns showed better results than conventional method.<BR>2. Distribution of high tensile stress was localized in the convex portion of the cervical proximal inner line of crowns.
