Abstract

A new directional coupler composed of three parallel rectangular cores in dielectric media is presented for rectangular light waveguides. The central core of them has a periodic groove structure of finite extent on its surface. The mode-matching method in the sense of least squares is applied to analyze scattering and coupling problem of this coupler for the fundamental compound mode incidence.
