Abstract

Metastasis to the uterus from extragenital cancer is unusual, and that from colorectal cancer is quite rare. We report a patient with uterine corpus metastasis from rectal cancer.
The patients had received surgery 3 years previously for rectal cancer, and she presented with an elevated serum CEA level. The presence of a solid tumor in the uterine corpus, and a tumor in the right lower abdominal cavity, were revealed by MRI and CT. The tumors were suspected to be metastases from the rectal cancer, by FDG-PET, and this was confirmed by histopathological examination of the resected specimens.
It is difficult to confirm the metastatic uterus tumor, while the almost all patients with metastatic uterus tumor have other organ metastases. It is important to assess the whole body before surgical removal of a uterine metastasis. In the current case, FDG-PET was useful for both detecting the uterine metastasis and excluding any other metastasis.
