Abstract

A 60-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of itching of the whole body. With close examinations, an elevated lesion about 40mm in size was found in the middle portion of bile duct. No biliary, hepatic and regional lymph node metastases were found. With a diagnosis of cancer of the middle portion of bile duct, a pancreatoduodenectomy was performed. After the operation, a HE staining revealed a part of cancerous tubular structure and a part of sarcomatoid spindle cells which surrounded the cancerous part. So carcinosarcoma was diagnosed. The patient's condition abruptly deteriorated and the patient died on 118th postoperative day.<br> Carcinosarcoma of the common bile duct is so rare that only four cases have been reported in the Japanese literature as far as we could review.
