We report a case of repeated resections of hepatic and pulmonary metastasis in a patient with colon cancer. A 68-year-old man, who had a previous history of undergoing an abdomino-perineal resection of the rectum 14 years before, underwent a resection of the transverse colon and a partial resection of the small intestine for transverse colon cancer as heterochronous double cancer. Operative findings included Si, N2 (+), P0, H0, and Stage IIIb, and there were three direct invasions in the small intestine. Abdominal CT scan after the operation revealed two metastatic lesions 2.5cm in size in the right posterior lobe of the liver. He received a posterior lobe resection, and intrahepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy. Eleven months after the first resection for liver metastasis, the serum carcinoembryonic antigen level had become high, 719ng/ml, and the recurrent lesionswere found by abdominal CT scan in the anterior lobe. He received the second hepatectomy with anterior lobe resection. Thereafter, five months after the second hepatectomy, the metastatic lesions existed in the pulmonary edge and around thediaphragm. He received multiple pulmonary resections as the fifth operation. During these periods, he received intraarterial chemotherapy according to the results of chemosensitivity tests. After 2 years and 8 months form the transverse colon resection, the patient has been free from recurrence and metastasis.
