Abstract

An 83-year-old woman was admitted due to intermittent abdominal pain with mucous and bloody diarrhea for 3 months prior to examination. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed concentric layering in the ascending colon and barium enema showed a mass 5cm in diameter in the same region.<br> Colonoscopy disclosed an irregular-surfaced ball-like tumor without intussusception nearby the Bauhin's valve. The tumor was diagnosed as malignant lymphoma confirmed by pathological examination of the biopsy specimen. Right hemicolectomy was conducted with lymph node dissection. Histological examination of the resected specimen confirmed the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (diffuse, medium cell type). Because adult intussusception is frequently indicative of disease, it is necessary to use CT and ultrasonography as the first choice in diagnosis.
