Abstract

We report a case of advanced pure mucinous breast cancer simulating inflammatory carcinoma. A 49year-old woman consulted our hospital complaining of a left breast tumor. Since inflammatory breast cancer was suggested and primary surgery was considered difficult, preoperative intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy was performed through the left subclavicular artery using 110mg of epi-ADM. The tumor size was reduced and the skin inflammation disappeared subsequently, a modified radical mastectomy was carried out. Histological findings were pure mucinous breast cancer with multiple lymph node metastases. Adjuvant therapy (CPA+5'DFUR+MPA+TAM) was administered and she has had no evidence of recurrence for 18 months.<br> The prognosis of pure mucinous breast cancer is generally good. This case of advanced mucinous breast cancer is very rare, but has an important implication for early diagnosis and treatment.
