Tumors of the trachea are rare, especially neurilemoma in the trachea. We experienced a case of neurilemoma of the trachea. A 28-year-old female was admitted to the hospital because of a mass in the superior mediastinum without any symptom which was pointed out at a medical check up. A chest X-ray film showed a round opaque lesion by the trachea, and deviation of the trachea to the left. Bronchoscopic examination revealed a mass which arose from the left lateral tracheal wall. The definite diagnosis could not be attained by biopsy. Operation was performed with a diagnosis of superior mediastinal tumor. Intraoperative frozen section diagnosis revealed benign neurogenic neoplasm. Tracheal partial resection was performed, and the tumor was extirpated. The histological diagnosis of the extirpated tumor was neurilemoma. The diagnostic and therapeutic management neurilemoma of the trachea are discussed on the basis of 21 worldwide cases including 6 domestic cases reviewed.
