This paper describes a rare case of coexistent malignant lymphoma and early carcinoma of the stomach, which was sucessfully managed by operation and adjuvant chemotherapy. A 76-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for close examination, because he was pointed out having a gastric tumor on a mass screening.<br> Gastricendoscopy showed an irregular shaped depressed area with broad-based elevation on the anterior side of the autrum. Endoscopic biopsy showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of the stomahc. Distal gastrectomy combined with lymph node dissection was carried out. The irregular shaped depressed lesion with broad-based elevation was present in the resected specimen. In addition, another irregular deprresed area was seen at the oral side of the main tumor. Histrogically the patient was diagnosed as having sychronous double cancer, namely, diffuse and B cell type of non-Hodgekin malignant lymphoma and moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of the stomach. After the operation, chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine and prednisolone was strated for the lymphoma, and doxifluride was orally given for the carcinoma. Postoperative course was uneventful. There has been no sign of recurrence, as of 3 years and 6 months after the operation. In order to have a favorable prognosis, multimodal therapy comprising of operation appropriate for the stage of each malignancy, chemoterapy and radiation is valuable.
