抄録

We experienced three patients with obturator hernia. One patient underwent an emergency surgery with a diagnosis penetration of the small bowel. However, the ailing period was too long and the patient died of pneumonia on the fourth postoperative day. Another patient was diagnosed as panperitonitis with free air and was saved by an emergency surgery. The remaining patient was diagnosed as obturator hernia by Howship-Romberg sign (H-R sign). A radical operation saved the life of the patient.<br> The obturator hernia is a rare disease and presents difficulty in preoperatine diagnosis. It is known that most cases are seen in elderly females, underwent an emergency surgery with the diagnosis of ileus, and have poor prognosis. CT or contrast studies can be useful tools, but H-R sign on the inside of the affected thigh which is a pressure symptom of the obturator nerve is the most important clue for the diagnosis of this disease.
