Abstract

Cystic lymphangioma in the neek region develops congenitally, and is usually detected in children aged two years or less. We experienced two adult patients with cystic lymphangioma in the neck. A 33-year-old female had a past history of swelling in her right side of the neck. The disappered swelling following puncture, developed again 30 years later. Cavernous hemangioma was suspected by an exploratory incision. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offered the final diagnosis of cystic lymphangioma with hemorrhage. A 31-year-old female with a swelling in the left side of the neck was diagnosed as having idiopathic cystic lymphangioma by an expolatory examination. Two years later the swelling suddenly increased in size. MRI was useful to make the definite diagnosis. Complete removal of cystic lymphangioma is necessary to prevent recurrence. MRI is a useful measure to make the definite diagnosis preoperatively.
