Abstract

We experienced four operated cases of so-called inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm and one operated case of iliac aneurysm in a recent two years, and the following outcomes were obtained:
1) Although the causative factors are still obscue, remissions in CT (mantle sign), inflammatory findings and clinical symptoms can be observed by administration of steroid. Once the steroid is stopped, however, mantle sign and inflammation recur in some cases, or the same findings as the aneurysm presents are seen in other arteries which disappear after an operation for the primary lesion. So, it is etiologically suggested that these symptoms may be reactions to some exudation from the aneurysm or some autoimmune reactions of atheromatous sclerotic lesiosn.
2) Steroid should be administered first for hydronephrosis with inflammation.
3) Operation should be indicated for even small aneurysms of less than 5cm in diameter.
