Abstract

Tuberculosis has been prone to be forgotten in these years. But, the reduction rate of the morbidity of tuberculosis has become slow in Japan and the morbidity is increasing in the USA recently.<br> A 44-year-old male suffering from cough, sputum, and body weight loss for about 6 months were admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. On the third hospital day, he was diagnosed as perforation of the digestive tract and underwent on emergency operation. Intraoperative and pathological findings indicated intestinal perforation due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Surgery is indicated for intestinal tuberculosis if the disease is complicated by abscess, obstruction, fistula, and perforation. Among these complications perforation uncommonly occurs. Upon operation we often have difficulty in deciding a suitable range of the intestine to be excised. We think that the range of the intestine including all ulcerative lesions should be excised, if possible.
