Abstract

This report describes two cases of renal angiomyolipoma (renal AML) which is considered to be relatively rare. Case 1: A 44-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a sudden abdominal pain. She was diagnosed as intraabdominal hemorrhage and retroperitoneal hematoma due to spontaneous rupture of a renal AML by abdominal CT and angiography. Emergency operation was performed. The excised tumor was 20×11×5 cm in size and was confirmed reanl AML by histological examination. Case 2: A 54-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of epigastralgia. A left renal tumor, 3×2cm in size, was incidentally detected by abdominal CT. Angiography was also performed and the tumor was suspected to be renal cell carcinoma. However, histological examination after left nephrectomy revealed that the tumor was not malignancy but renal AML. Since a low density area which indicates fatty tissue was found in CT films retrospectively, the possibility of renal AML should be also considered preoperatively. It is important to evaluate CT films carefully in diagnosis of renal AML.
