Malignant melanoma of esophagus is rare and has a poorest prognosis. We report such a case of malignant melanoma of the esophagus.<br> A 64-year-old woman was seen at another hospital because of epigastric discomfort and dysphagia when she was pointed out several black elevated lesions at the EC junction by endoscopy. She was referred to the hospital. On admission other physical findings were not remarkable. A upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed six black elevated lesions. One lesion was about 3cm at EC junction, and 3 and 2 lesions were at the esophagus and at cardia of the stomach respectively. A pathological diagnosis by biopsy was malignant melanoma and an operation was done about 6 months after subjective symptoms developed on 19. Jul. Gross stage was A0N2M0P10, in stage III and total excision of he thoracic esophagus and partial excision of the cardia, resectability I and curability I, were carried out. In the excised specimens, a 43×35mm black lesion (0-Ip type) at the EC junction and 6 black lesions of about 10mm (0-I, II type) in size were confirmed. The pathological diagnosis was primary malignant melanoma.
