Abstract

It is very rare that an intestinal perforation occurs in a paient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). We studied clinicopathologically such a case in this paper.<br> A 75-year-old women was repeatedly admitted to and discharged from the hospital with a diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and laryngeal ulcer for these 4 years was admitted to the hospital again. During this admission, she complained of an abdominal pain suddenly, though CLL was well controlled. She was diagnosed as panperitonitis due to intestinal perforation and was transferred to the department of surgery for an emergency operation. Upon laparotomy, two perforation holes were confirmed at the of the ileum and resection of the ileocecal lesion and tube ileostomy were carried out. Immunohistopathology revealed an infiltration of leukemic cells in the lesions, which presumably caused these ulcers.<br> As well as other type leukemia, intestinal perforation may occur in a patient with CLL and it can be fatal, so an appropriate management with meticulous care is necessary.
