抄録

An 80-year-old Japanese man was admitted to the hospital because of poor appetite, abdominal fullness and vomiting. The patient had no response to conservative therapy for ten days with a diagnosis of intestinal obstruction, and a laparotomy was performed. There was incarceration of a part of the ileum in the intersigmoid fossa, 5 cm in diameter, and the diagnosis of “intersigmoid hernia” was made. We easily reduced the incarcerated ileum with manual procedure, and the hernia orifice was sutured. The hernia orifice was 1.5×1.0 cm in diameter and its lumen was 4.0×2.5 cm.<br> The occurrence of internal hernia involving the sigmoid mesocolon is not frequent, and there have been 25 cases reported in Japan. Among of them, such cases as having an intersigmoid hernia have come to only eight including this case so far.
