We report a very rare case of intussusception of the ileum caused by an inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) in an adult. A 49-year-old woman was referred to the clinic because of an abdominal pain. On presentation, she had slight fullness of abdomen. Leukocytosis and ileus of the small bowel on a plain abdominal film were noticed. The mass was palpable in the right lower quadrant after bowel pressure was reduced by the depressurized tube insertion. Abdominal ultrasound, CT and hypaque enema demonstrated intussusception of the ileum.<br> Emergency laparotomy was performed and an ileal intussusception was confirmed. As circulatory impairment of the intestine was noted and a tumor was palpated at the top of the intussusception, excision of the ileum including the lesion was carried out. Grossly, the tumor was a well-established polypoid mass. Microscopic findings were well compatible with IFP.<br> In a review of the Japanese literature, IFP is so rare that only some 40 cases have been seen.
