Abstract
We experienced a case of breast cancer with cartilaginous and osseous metaplasia causing intratumor bleeding which made breast enlarge and necessitated an emergency operation. A 45-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a huge tumor, 19×20cm in size, of the left breast with bloody nipple discharge and anemia. Examination revealed that the tumor in the left breast was a large cystic mass with intratumor bleeding. There was intracystic solid component along the wall. The breast rapidly expanded with the growth of the tumor due to intratumor bleeding. Embolization of the tumor feeder arteries failed to control the bleeding. An emergency operation (radical masetectomy) was performed. Histologically, the tumor was invasive carcinoma with cartilaginous and osseous metaplasia intermingled with sarcomatous feature.
