We experienced a case of true cyst of the spleen in which a partial splenectomy was carried out.<br> A 45-year-old man was seen at the hospital because of left hypochondralgia. With close examinations including abdominal ultrasonography and abdominal CT, the patient was diagnosed as having a cyst of the spleen. Since he had subjective symptoms and risks of rupture of the cyst and infection, an operation was carried out. For the purpose of preserving the splenic function in terms of liable infection and thrombosis after splenectomy, we employed partial splenectomy. Histopathologically, the cyst was diagnosed as true cyst of the spleen which is rare. Postoperative course was uneventful and the splenic function appeared to be satisfactorily preserved. We think that the partial splenectomy should be aggressively performed as a surgical treatment for splenic cyst.
