抄録

A 45-year-old man who had been pointed out cholelithiasis was found out having a submucosal tumor in the duodenal papilla by upper gastrointestinal series and gastrointestinal fiberscope at a medical checkup, though the patient was asymptomatic. The duodenum was incised to extirpate the tumor. During the operation a 2.5cm submucosal tumor in the papilla of Vater was found out, which had a smooth surface and was not associated with reddening or erosion; the tumor compressed the common bile duct and pancreatic duct; and the openning of the papilla existed on the tumor. Histologically epithelioid cells, gangliocytes, and fusiform cells were seen. The tumor was diagnosed with gangliocytic paragangiloma. This disease is so rare that only 15 cases have been reported in Japan so far.
