Abstract

A 68-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of occult blod which was pointed out on a mass screening. Barium enema study revealed a protrusion where the central part was dimpling polypoid lesion in the ascending colon. Colonoscopic examination showed a tumor with crater of which surface was similar to adjacent normal mucosa with ulceration. Histologic examination of biopsy specimens showed group I, but we had difficulty in differentiation from malignant lymphoma. Right hemicolectomy with lymphnode dissection was performed because there were a number of swollen lymph-nodes. resected specimen was 2.5×1.5cm in size. Histologic examination revealed a submucosal tumor consisting of spindle-shapped cells with obtuse margin which broke the mucosa to develop into the lumen. There was no atypical nucleus. The definite diagnosis of leiomyoma of the ascending colon was made.
