Of 665 patients with primary breast cancer treated over the past 20 years, seven patients (1%) were men. Their average age was 68 years which was higher than the average for women, 52 years. Their ailing times ranged from 3 months to 3 years, averaging 1 year. The tumor was located at the peri-nipple region in four patients and at the upper outer quadrant in three patients. Tumor sizs ranged from 2 to 4cm, averaging 2.4cm. Operative procedures included Auchincloss method in 4 patients, Patey method in one, radical mastectomy in one, and accessory mammary gland resection plus axillary lymphnode dissection in one. Three out of these patients were in surgical stage I and four were in stage II. Six out of the seven patients received postoperative adjuvant therapy. Two out of the three patients with axillary lymphnode metastases were treated with irradiation and chemotherapy, while the remaining patient only had irradiation. Two ER-positive patients were given endocrine therapy and one ER-negative patient received chemotherapy. The prognosis was poor, with only two patients surviving at the time of the study. One patient died of breast cancer, three patients of other illnesses, and one patient of unknown cause. Not only female breast cancer also male breast cancer should be widely enlightened to make an attempt to detect it an early stage.
