Abstract

ウシ由来ベロ毒素産生性大腸菌 (VTEC) の下痢原性を幼若ウサギ感染モデルを用いて検討した. VTEC4株とnon<SUP>-</SUP>VTEC3株の10<SUP>9</SUP>個を生後6日齢のウサギに経口投与した. その結果, VT<SUP>+</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>+</SUP>の3株, VT<SUP>+</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>-</SUP>の1株およびVT-, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>+</SUP>の1株は菌投与48-60時間後に下痢を惹起したが, VT<SUP>-</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>-</SUP>の2株は全く下痢をおこさなかった. 以上の成績から, 6日齢の幼若ウサギはウシ由来のVTECおよび<I>eaeA</I>陽性大腸菌の下痢原性を解明するための有用な感染モデルであると考えられた.

Infant rabbits were used as a model to study the diarrhogenicity of verocytotoxin<SUP>-</SUP>producing <I>Escherichia coli</I> (VTEC) isolated from bovine. Infant rabbits aged 6 days were inoculated intragastrically with 10<SUP>9</SUP> viable bacteria of four VTEC or three non<SUP>-</SUP>VTEC strains. Of these strains, three strains (VT<SUP>+</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>+</SUP>), one strain (VT<SUP>+</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>-</SUP>) and one strain (VT<SUP>-</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>+</SUP>) caused diarrhea in rabbits 48 to 60 hr after inoculation. None of the two strains (VT<SUP>-</SUP>, <I>eaeA</I><SUP>-</SUP>) caused symptoms.<BR>Based on these results, it is suggested that the 6-day-old infant rabbit is a suitable animal for studying diarrhea caused by VTEC or <I>eaeA</I>-positive <I>E. coli</I> strains of bovine origin.
