Abstract

1990年代以降,日本の聴覚障害児教育では手話の導入が徐々に試されるようになり,現在,手話言語の獲得,言語発達,および手話の特性等を明らかにしていく必要性が高まっている.本稿では,はじめに手話の定義について概説した後,聴覚障害児・者の言語獲得および言語環境の問題に関して言及し,それらの理論的背景,聴覚障害児教育における早期手話導入について検討を行った.海外における手話言語獲得および早期手話導入に関する研究報告により,聴覚障害児が幼少期より他者と良好なコミュニケーションを図りながら認知機能や言語発達を進めていく可能性が示唆された.今後,日本においても聴覚障害児の養育や教育における言語環境について,聴覚障害児の両親,ろう学校教師,聴覚障害関連の専門家,そして成人ろう者による検討がなされ,その環境を整備していくことが期待された.

Since 1990s education for children with hearing impairment in Japan has gradually tried to utilize manual communication. It is now necessary to understand theories of language acquisition, background and practice. After an explanation of definitions of manual communication systems and sign languages, studies related to language acquisition and language background for people with hearing impairment are reviewed in terms of theoretical backgrounds and future directions. Studies in foreign countries on sign language acquisition and early sign language practices indicate that children with hearing impairment can develop language and cognition abilities by communicating with others from early childhood. It is expected that teachers in schools for the deaf, researchers, parents of children with hearing impairment, and deaf adults in Japan will examine the environment in which children are raised and educated, and improve that environment in the future.
