In order to assess the drawing ability of severe aphasic patients, the drawing subtest and the language subtests of the Language and Non-Language Test for Severe Aphasia were administered to 45 severe aphasic patients. The following results were obtained. 1) There was a significant correlation between the scores on drawing and the scores on writing, reading comprehension, and auditory comprehension. A weak correlation was detected between scores on drawing and oral expression. 2) Among individuals with Wernicke, Broca and unclassified aphasia, no differences in drawing ability were detected. The drawing ability of people with mixed aphasia was significantly less than that of ones with Wernicke aphasia. The drawing ability of total aphasics was significantly less than those of any other aphasic types. 3) Patients were classified into three groups; A-group could draw the symbolic pictures, B-group could draw them a little, C-group couldn't draw them at all. Based upon these classifications, we discussed application of the drawing treatment to aphasic patients.
