抄録

The background factors and surgical results of 546 patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) in an early group (between January 1976 and December 1989) were compared with those of 454 patients in a later group (between January 1990 and July 1998).<br> The later group was older than the early group and had less critical leg ischemia. In the later group, there were more patients with diabetes mellitus and renal failure. There were no significant differences between the two groups in bypass patency rates and hospital deaths.<br> It is necessary to develop a new therapy which prevents intimal hyperplasia and arteriosclerosis.
