Abstract

A 40-year-old woman, who had undergone an ileocecal excision with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease ten years earlier and had been followed at another hospital, was admitted to the hospital because of right back and leg pain. Right iliopsoas abscess was diagnosed by an abdominal CT scan of her abdomen, and a drainage was performed. After inflammation subsided, a right hemicolectomy was performed. At the operation, stenosis of the terminal ileum and fistula which was formed between the anastomosis and right iliopsoas muscle were noted. The postoperative course was uneventful without any complications. No signs of recurrence have been seen up to now. Crohn's disease complicated by iliopsoas abscess is so rare that only 33 cases of the disease including this case have been reported in the Japanese literature.
