A 69-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of sudden onset of upper abdominal pain in January, 1996. Previous history disclosed radical hysterectomy with radiation therapy for a uterine cancer in 1977. Because niveau was recognized in a plain abdominal X-ray film, she was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of the ileus. An Ileus tube was inserted into the intestine first of all. On the second day she cut the ileus tube by herself. A laparotomy was carried out to release the ileus, because the movement of the tube stopped and a peritonitis symptom appeared on the seventh hospital day. It was proved that the ileus was induced by a perforation of the small intestine caused by press through package, resulting in peritonitis. Resection of the ileus including the perforation part was carried out and the ileus tube was removed. It is thought that some change of the medicine package style would be necessary or the aged people.
