We reviewed six cases of atlanto-axial Rotatatory Fixation (AARF) that were evaluated by Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography (3-DCT). They were 2 boys and 4 girls, whose ages ranged from 3 to 12 years. All cases were caused by minor trauma, and the duration of admisson was 1 day to 2 months. Of these patients, 5 were treated successfully with manipulation and Gallion traction and the chronic 1 case was operated on with C1-C2 posterior fusion. It was not easy to obtain radiographs and diagnose AARF, because of the abnormal position of the head and stiffness. 3-DCT was useful for understanding the horizontal and vertical displacements of the atlanto-axial joint.
