Thymic carcinoma is a malignant tumor and is often detected after it has invaded surrounding organs. We report four cases of the thymic carcinoma treated by induction chemotherapy with cisplatin, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide (PAC), followed by a complete resection. All patients were male, with ages ranging from 27 to 69 years old. Three cases were of stage III in the Masaoka's classification and one case was of stage IVb carcinoma. PAC was performed 1 course in three cases and 2 courses in one case. Adverse side effects of PAC were moderate and no severe complications were seen. The PAC regimen result in MR (minor response) in all cases. They underwent an extended thymectomy and added resection of the supra vena cava, left brachiocephalic vein, aortic arch, pericardium and lung. These were complete resection. After the operation, radiation therapy was added for the mediastinum in all cases. One patient has been free from recurrence 23 months after the operation. The remaining two patients are alive as of 13 months and 8 months after the operation, respectively, while they are carring cancer. We think that the PAC regiman which led to resect the tumor completely, is relatively effective.
