抄録

We report a case of rectal prolapse associated with rectal cancer, which is rare. An 85-year-old woman seen at another hospital because of anal pain and bleeding presented an rectal prolapse with a tumor at the tip of the prolapsed rectum when rectal injection was performed in March 2002. Histological examination revealed that the tumor was malignant and she was referred and admitted to the hospital in April 2002. On admission the prolapsed rectum was about 10cm in length and a type 1 tumor was observed. The tumor was resected under spinal anesthesia and the methods of Gant-Miwa combined with Thiersh were added to repair the rectal prolapse. Histologically, the tumor was moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma and the operation resulted in a complete local resection (se, lyl, v0). Although no lymph node dissection was performed, the patient has been free from recurrence of cancer and rectal prolapse up to now. We think that this option of treatment is good enough for aged patients who are not in good performance status.
