Abstract

A 68-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of bowel obstruction with high fever, diarrhea and melena. We used a trans-anal tube for decompression and avoided an emergency operation.
After admission, we diagnosed the case as cancer of the sigmoid colon with invasion and penetration to the bladder. After sufficient examinations of the large intestine, the patient was operated on. Postoperative course was uneventful.
To our knowledge, there has been no report describing successful management of cancer of the sigmoid colon with invasion and penetration to the bladder by a use of a trans-anal tube. This extremely rare case is presented here together with a review of the literature.
