Abstract

Print on demand (POD) is a new computer-based printing method, for short runs, faster and more flexible than traditional printing methods. Due to the high cost of typesetting, printing company use digital files directly provided by the clients. This direct process is very difficult without common knowledge within printing company and clients. As the demand for has increased, especially manuals for industrial machinery accumulated in database are suitable.<BR>In POD, all data is completely digitally typeset and printed out on a paper output terminal device. Earlier technical problem has been solved, and is becoming more and more cost-effective. In addition, POD has become easier to use due to the spread of CTP Technology.<BR>POD will enable new products that were not possible with traditional offset printing, such as books printed on an as ordered basis and large-type books for visually impaired person. In time, POD will replace offset printing.
