Abstract

A WWW-based computer system has been developed for supporting individualized exercises of fundamental mathematics. The system supports two types of exercises, one of which is traditional one with paper and pencils, and the other is an interactive exercise on the computer.<BR>The traditional exercise is individualized in a way where each student solves the problem optimized for his/her level of understanding. The system stores the data related to the exercise, and serves necessary information to the users. The students have more opportunities to improve their understandings.<BR>The interactive exercise might improve the exercise by faster response to the student's input and on-line suggestion. It receives symbolic expressions as the input and returns meaningful comments than correct or not.
