Abstract
This paper aims to derive average trip length in a unit circular city, in which home and workplaces are independently and uniformly distributed, with n-ring/radial routing system: infinite radial roads and finite orbital roads. The proposed model with n-ring/radial routing system is a useful tool for considering trip length in metropolitan areas like Tokyo where some orbital roads are planned. We find that densely located ring routes at the intermediate region of the city minimize average trip length. We also find that the intermediate orbital road has a heavier traffic flow. These characteristics are confirmed by the actual road system in Tokyo wards area.
