Abstract

At the present time, many students of Tohoku University are commuting to school by motorcycles and cars. This circumstance has caused many problems such as traffic accident, lack of parking, etc. To solve these problems, this study has made the evaluation of the policy that leads the place of residence by using a transition provability modeling approach. It is found that the rate of vehicle holding depends on the characteristics of residential area. The student who lives in the hill area is likely to hold motorcycle and car earlier than the student who lives in the plain. Similarly, it is found that if public transit service is available, the presently non-vehicle or bicycle holding students will have high potential to commute by bus. So, if many students are lead to plain area and public transit service is available in plain area, it will be high potential to convert to public transit and traffic accident can be reduced.
