Abstract

The purpose of this research is to propose a sleeve type cloth filtration method in which thickening or dewatering of sewage sludge is carried out utilizing an aeration or sedimentation tank through some fundamental experiments. As the background of research, large-scale sewage treatment systems have been already developed and now are being constructed on a small scale in rural areas. Therefore, from the viewpoint of energyor resources-saving, some concrete technologies or systems are essential.<BR>Accordingly, in order to simplify treatment of the sewage sludge, some fundamental experiments for constructing a batchwise system were carried out, in which a cotton cloth filtration is formed in a sleeve-like manner, and the aeration or sedimentation tank is used in water. It was found that the water content of dewatered sludge is 90% or less, in some cases 85% when filtered at a low filtration pressure of 1 atm or less. In the case of the present sleeve-type filtration cloth used in a dead end system, there are differences in the water content depending upon its position: The closer to the tip end position of flow, the lower the water content. These results elucidated some degree of efficacy of this system.
