抄録

We report a case of abdominal actinomycosis with periappendicular abscess diagnosed preoperatively.<br>A 48-year-old man admitted for lower right abdominal pain and a palpable mass had a history of chronic abdominal pain. Computed tomography showed a periappendicular abscess with barium. Laparotomy showed an atrophied appendix with fibrous adhesion to the surroundings, a fistula between the appendix and ileum, and a periappendicular abscess with barium.<br>We conducted appendectomy and fistulectomy with abscess drainage. The histopathological specimen of the abscess with barium involved sulfur granules, yielding a final diagnosis of abdominal actinomycosis. He has been on antibiotics and asymptomatic without recurrence. This infectous disease should thus be considered when we encounter a chronic intraabdominal abscess.
