Perturbed-Angular-Correlation Studies on ^<111>Cd and ^<117>In in Pyrochlore Cd_2Nb_2O_7

The nuclear-electric-quadrupole interactions at <SUP>111</SUP>Cd and <SUP>117</SUP>In nuclei arising from <SUP>111m</SUP>Cd and <SUP>117</SUP>Cd, respectively, chemically introduced in pyrochlore ferroelectric Cd<SUB>2</SUB>Nb<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>7</SUB> (<i>T<SUB>C</SUB></i> = 196 K) were studied using the perturbed-angular-correlation technique. At temperatures above <i>T<SUB>C</SUB></i>, there is one type of Cd sites. However, at liquid nitrogen temperature, below <i>T<SUB>C</SUB></i>, there are two types of Cd sites. The ratio of the electric quadrupole frequency of <SUP>117</SUP>In to that of <SUP>111</SUP>Cd is anomalously deviated from a value expected from the purely ionic In and Cd ions in the same lattice environment.
