Abstract

We report a case of intussuscepted cecal lipoma that was treated by laparoscopy-assisted partial ileoce-cal resection. A 73-year-old man with lower abdominal pain was admitted to our hospital. Abdominal computed tomography suggested cecal intussusception caused by a lipoma of the cecum. The intussusception was successfully reduced by barium enema, and ileocecal resection was then performed using laparoscopy-assisted surgery. The tumor origin was just after the Bauhin's valve. The resected specimen revealed a 58×47×72mm submucosal tumor, which was diagnosed histopathologically as a lipogenic tumor suspected to be a highly differentiated liposarcoma of borderline malignancy. Our experience suggests that laparoscopy-assisted surgery is preferable to open surgery in patients with highly differentiated liposarcoma, since the tumor can be treated less invasively.
