Locations of localized corrosions of the steel floor plate of a cylindrical storage tank 32.93 m in diameter were estimated by AE analysis and correlated with the localized wall-reduction zone measured by ultrasonic test. We monitored Lamb wave AEs for one hour twice using eight 50 kHz AE sensors mounted on the terrace of the annular plate. Sources of 84 AE events were located from the first 1hr AE monitoring and those of 75 events from the second 1hr monitoring. Here, the source locations were estimated by two location schemes, i.e., virtual source scanning method (VSS) and conventional time of flight method (TOF). The VSS methods located 80% of AE events into a specified zone in the third quadrant of the floor plate which agrees quite well with the wall reduction zones measured by the ultrasonic method. AE sources located near the annular plate agree fairly well with the wall reductions of the annular plate. Some wall reduction zones of the annular plate could not be detected by AE due to the weak signals of some sensors.
