Abstract

There are many anesthesiologists who change their specialty from anesthesiology to other specialties such as emergency medicine, intensive care medicine and pain clinic. But there are few anesthesiologists changing to palliative medicine, because it is difficult for them to work in the PCU since that they are not accustomed to being in charge of patients in the ward. Since hospital palliative care teams are prevailing in Japan, interest in the palliative care team among anesthesiologists is increasing. In the palliative care team, there are many things to do as an anesthesiologist such as treating acute pain with nerve blocks according to consultations from physicians in the wards. Anesthesiologists are suitable for palliative physicians in hospital palliative care teams.
