抄録

We encountered a patient with actinomycosis of transverse mesocolon and appendix, which may have been caused by an intrauterine device. The patient was a 49-year-old woman referred to our hospital with a major complaint of tumor in the right lower abdomen. Abdominal CT demonstrated a tumor with a diameter of 5cm just beneath the right lower abdominal wall. Perioperatively, a 5cm tumor infiltrating from the transeverse mesocolon to the abdominal wall in the right lower abdomen was observed, and swelling of the appendix was also noted. Partial resection of the transverse colon and an appendectomy were performed. Pathohistologically, the lesion was diagnosed as actinomycosis. Five weeks after surgery, a recurrence was observed, but it subsided after administration of antibiotics. It is necessary to be aware of the possibility of actinomycosis caused by long-term insertion of an intrauterine device.
