Abstract

In recent years, a new stick-type odor identification test has been developed in Japan. Thirteen odors familiar to Japanese people are used in this test.<br>In this study, we evaluated the suitability of the odor stick identification test for Japanese (OSIT-J) in patients with olfactory disturbances. We then compared the results with those for T&T olfactometry, which is the standard olfactory test used in Japan, and examined the efficacy of the OSIT-J. A significant correlation was seen between the results of the OSIT-J and the average recognition threshold of T&T olfactometry. We recommend the OSIT-J for evaluating olfactory disturbances.
