We measured binocular function of eyes with bifocal contact lenses by Titmus Stereo Test to study the influence of bifocal contact lenses on the visual function. In addition, we performed a survey of patient satisfaction by CSQ (Client Satisfaction Questionnaire) -8J, which consists of eight questions. Objects of the present study are 22 people for whom bifocal contact lens multi-view EX(L) (HOYA) was prescribed. The mean far and near visual acuity of those who comfortably wore the bifocal contact lens were 1.2 and 0.9 each. The mean value of binocular function of those who wore a monofocal lens was 51.8sec, whereas that of people with the bifocal lens was 64.5sec. The mean value of patient satisfaction rating who wore the bifocal contact lens was 23.7 (medium: 21.0). The present study indicates that those who had a binocular function of less than 60.0 sec were inclined to be unsuccessful in wearing the bifocal contact lens.<br>We suggest that in prescribing the bifocal contact lens it would be better to firstly adjust the near visual acuity. Then additional glasses may be prescribed in some people who drive a car.
