Abstract

<p>科学技術人材育成にとっても,すべての人々の基本的な素養にとっても,基礎科学・基礎物理教育の重要性が強まっている.筆者らが行った日本の物理・応用物理学関連学科の卒業生に対するアンケート調査から,これらの分野の学部教育が産業界に進出する人材にとっても重要なキャリアの入り口(キャリアパス)になっていることが裏づけられた.しかし日本だけでなく,欧米でも若者の理科離れ・物理離れの進行が憂慮されている.物理離れ克服の手がかりを得るために,英国や米国で進められている理科教育・物理教育の活性化の努力や,教育改善に理論的な裏づけを与える「物理教育研究」の動向をあわせてご紹介する.</p>

<p>The need for effective science education is mounting as society is becoming more strongly dependent on advanced science and technology. This article reports on a survey on those who have received bachelor's degrees in Japanese physics and applied physics departments. The results indicate that those departments have been serving as an important path into a wide range of careers including those in industry. However, in many countries, the fraction of young people choosing to study physics is decreasing. The effort to reverse the trend in UK and USA are briefly reviewed in order to seek guidelines for drawing more people by making physics education more attractive and effective.</p>
