Abstract

<p>薄型テレビや白色発光ダイオードの急速な進展に伴い,蛍光体の研究が活発である.蛍光体には複雑な組成のものが多いが,原型となる単純な物質と比較して,多元系化合物であることのメリットとデメリットを説明する.まず,プラズマテレビ用蛍光体の真空紫外光による励起機構について議論する.次いで,白色発光ダイオード用希土類添加蛍光体,特にケイ窒化物,ケイ酸窒化物新材料の結晶構造と発光色や効率の温度特性の関連について,最近の情報をもとに解説する.</p>

<p>The rapid development of flat-panel displays and white light-emitting diodes has activated research on phosphors. Many phosphor materials have complicated chemical formulae, which often complicate their study. In this paper, the author explains the composition of multinary materials and their merits and demerits in comparison with simpler prototype materials. First we discuss the excitation mechanism of plasma-display phosphors by vacuum ultraviolet photons. Next, recent progress in the development of phosphors for white light-emitting diodes, particularly new nitridosilicates and oxynitridosilicates activated with rare-earth ions are reviewed, with an emphasis on the effects of crystal structures upon luminescence color and thermal quenching.</p>
